Beginning Wednesday evening, crews shifted travel lanes on Westbound Route 7 from Rolling Holly Drive to Reston Avenue.

The $37 million project will widen Route 7 to three lanes in both directions, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The work is scheduled to be completed by 2015.

The project will also lengthen turn lanes and improve the Georgetown Pike and Seneca Road intersections, in addition to creating 10-foot wide paths in both directions, the Washington Post reports.

Wednesday night’s work shifted westbound traffic slightly south and drivers are encouraged to use a temporary access road. A new traffic signal at Redberry Court indicates access in both directions on Route 7, according to the VDOT.
