Fairfax City Residents Face Significant Property Tax Increase Amid Rising Inflation; Public Hearing Scheduled
Fairfax City homeowners could see substantial property tax increases in 2025, with some residents experiencing a total increase of over 40% in just two years. For example, my own property taxes have increased from $10,601.58 in 2023 to an estimated $14,019.75 in 2025—a 32.24% jump.
This dramatic rise in property taxes comes at a particularly challenging time, given persistent inflation and widespread government and business downsizing. As residents already face increased costs of living, additional financial burdens like these property tax hikes exacerbate economic pressures, potentially creating significant hardship for many homeowners.
The City Council has scheduled multiple public hearings and sessions to discuss these increases, with the first public hearing set for March 11, 2025. Residents are strongly encouraged to participate, voice their concerns, and seek transparency on this matter.

Key Upcoming Dates:

  • City Council Public Hearing (Tax Rate): March 11, 2025
  • City Council Public Hearing: March 25, 2025
  • Administrative Assessment Review Appeals Due: April 4, 2025
  • Additional Public Hearing (RE Tax Rate/Work Session): April 22, 2025
  • Final Public Hearing and Budget Adoption: May 6, 2025
  • Appeals to the Board of Equalization Due: June 30, 2025
