Fairfax City Salon Finds 'Bright' Idea To Keep Customer Prices Low
A Fairfax City hair salon recently underwent an upgrade that will save an estimated 21,000 kilowatt-hours on its energy bill.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — A Fairfax City hair salon recently came up with a “bright” idea for cutting costs and keeping customer prices low with the help of Dominion Energy Virginia’s Small Business Improvement Enhanced Program.
Great Clips in Fairfax City, which is located at 3989 Pickett Road, upgraded its interior lighting system to energy-efficient LED fixtures.
“This important upgrade will help us reduce our monthly operating expenses and keep our current low haircut prices for our customers,” said Sean Carroll, salon owner. “Without the critical support of Dominion Energy’s small business program, we could not afford this change so recently after our grand opening.”

Carroll took advantage of nearly $2,400 in rebates from Dominion Energy’s small business program to pay for LED lighting and occupancy sensors. The upgrade is projected to reduce annual energy use by over more than 21,000 kilowatt-hours.
“The new lighting is beautiful,” said Carroll. “It makes the salon brighter and more welcoming for our customers. We did this for them.”
The Great Clips is Carroll’s second location. He opened his first salon on Nov. 17, 2022 at 11130 South Lakes Drive in Reston.

“Ultimately, our goal is to keep costs low so we can continue offering our customers great haircuts without raising prices,” Carroll said. “We are committed to our reputation for providing the best priced haircuts in town.”
Since the Farifax City salon's opening in 2024, Carroll has made connections in the community, including helping to raise money for the Woodson High School PTSO's grant program.
