Fairfax resident William J. Luedtke marked his 100th birthday on Saturday with friends and family at the Fairfax Nursing Home.
Luedtke was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 22, 1912. He lived in Washington D.C., working for the government, before moving to Fairfax with his wife Juanita and two children. He remembers carrying the baby strollers up to their third floor apartment in D.C., a task that quickly became too much to handle.

In Fairfax, the family was involved in the . After Juanita passed away due to Alzheimer’s, members of the church took care of Luedtke. Friends say he has “a brilliant mind,” citing his memory and ability to recall his life stories.
