Suspected Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation Of Herndon Elementary: Report

HERNDON, VA — Students were evacuated from Herndon Elementary School for a short period of time on Monday morning to allow public safety personnel to search the school for a suspected gas leak.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched to 630 Dranesville Road around 8:48 a.m. after someone reported smelling gas at the school, according to a FCFR spokesman.

Fire and rescue personnel searched the building, but they did not detect the precedence of gas either inside or outside of the school. Students returned to their classes after about 30 minutes, according to the spokesman. No injuries were reported.
