How to Understand the Thefts From Unlocked Cars Map
Incidents were released by block number.

Fairfax City Police released the hundred-block locations of unlocked vehicles rummaged through or stolen from over the weekend. We took that information and plotted it on a map to get a better understanding of just where and when these incidents took place.

Yeah, there's a lot of markers. Here are some things to keep in mind:

- There were about 25 thefts from unlocked cars between July 23-24. The map includes one stolen car.
- Not all cars had items taken from them.
- You can click on each push pin to see the total incident count for that block. Remember, all reports are by block number only, not individual addresses.
- We will update this map with more incidents as they happen.
There's a few easy ways to keep this from happening to you. 1) Lock your car. 2) Remove valuables from your car, or hide them... well. Not just under a blanket or in the glove box.
