HuffPo: Local Mountaineer Fell 1,000 Feet to His Death in Peru
He reached the west summit of the Cordillera Blanca range in Peru before his death.
A local mountain climber was found dead after reaching the west summit of the Cordillera Blanca range in Peru earlier this month according to the Huffington Post.
Two climbers, Ben Horne, 32, Gil Weiss, 22, went out of communication with their families after starting their seven- to 10-day climb on July 11, according to Huffington Post. Horne was from Annandale and Weiss was from Queens, NY. A search party believes Horne and Weiss fell almost 1,000 feet to their deaths. Their bodies were discovered in the snow at the base of such a ledge.
Huffington Post reported that both were experienced climbers.
