July 4 Detours

Planning on driving through downtown Fairfax on July 4? Here are a few streets to avoid:

• Closed for parade: Main Street will detour to North Street from 8 a.m. until noon. Portions of University Drive, George Mason Boulevard and Chain Bridge road will be rerouted during this time. Parking will be restricted in these areas.
• Closed for Fireman's Day: University Drive will be closed from Sager Avenue to Armstrong Street between noon and 5 p.m.
• Closed for fireworks traffic: Through-traffic won't be allowed on Old Lee Highway from 9:15-11 p.m. to allow fireworks spectators to leave Fairfax High School.
