Little Austria Gets Stand-Alone Bakery In Sterling

STERLING, VA—A popular area baker who operates her business out of a community kitchen of sorts will soon be getting her own stand-alone bakery with the help of a $13,700 state grant. Helene Gallent, Austrian-born founder of Little Austria, LLC, has been selling her wares to various farmers markets from a shared-use kitchen in Ashburn's ChefScape.
The grant, according to a release from Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's office, is expected to be matched with local funds by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. The business will create five new jobs and invest more than $371,000 to build the new bakery.
Gallent said she started Little Austria in 2017 "with the idea to bring traditional Austrian strudels made with high-quality local ingredients to market." The strudels can be found at farmers markets in Virginia, as well as Washington, D.C. and Maryland.
