Maryland Driver Charged in Braddock-Twinbrook Motorcycle Death

One dead, two seriously injured as vehicle turned in front of motorcycles.

Police charged a 63-year-old Maryland driver in the Braddock-Twinbrook motorcycle crash that killed an Annandale man.

Tuong Nguyen of Towson, MD, was charged with failing to yield right of way, according to Fairfax County Police. She was released on a summons. 

An Annandale motocyclist died July 16 after Nguyen allegedly turned left in front of him and another biker at Braddock and Twinbrook roads.

Both 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycles hit the passenger side of the 1997 Lexus sedan as it turned left in front of them onto Twinbrook from westbound Braddock at around 7 p.m. The bikers tried to stop, to no avail.

William Tyler Cowherd, 45, of 4605 Medford Drive, died in Inova Fairfax Hospital from his injuries, according to Fairfax County Police. Cowherd's passenger, a 44-year-old Annandale woman, and the driver of the second motorcycle, a 50-year-old Manassas man, were severely injured, though are expected to survive.

The driver of the Lexus remained after the accident. She was not injured. All bikers were wearing helmets. Police believe speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
