Meet Your Council Members
A quick look at the seven policymakers in Fairfax City.
Don't have time to visit your council or attend city hall meetings in person? Read on to learn a little about the officials behind Fairfax City.
Long-time Mayor Robert Lederer represents Fairfax City on a number of regional transportation committees. Former chair of the Task Force for a More Livable City of Fairfax, Lederer helped redevelop Old Town Fairfax. He served on the council for four terms in the 1980s, then came back for another two terms from 1998-2002.
He has lived in Fairfax City his whole life, attending Green Acres Elementary School, Sidney Lanier Middle School and Fairfax High School. He now lives in Cobbdale with his wife and their three kids.

Steven Stombres is serving his second term on council He's the councilmember to turn to for environment and sustainability issues, having helped form a new ordinance to modernize the city's recycling regulations. Stombres is also active in transportation projects and land use issues. A lifelong Fairfax City resident, he's a member of Historic Fairfax City, Inc., American Legion Post 177 and Daniels Run PTA. He coaches FPYC soccer, Little League baseball and is an avid fan of the Country Club Hills Sharks swim team.

This is Eleanor, or Ellie, Schmidt's first term on the council. An executive vice president and chief security officer for Cardinal Bank, Schmidt lives in Country Club Hills. She is an active member of Fairfax Crime Solvers, a nonprofit organization that works with police on investigations and raises money for tip rewards. Schmidt has helped with large city events, serving as chair and color commentator of the Independence Day Celebration Committee. She has also been involved in the Festival of Lights and Carols and the Chocolate Lovers Festival.

Five-year council veteran Joan Cross works with the city and local businesses in the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Destination Fairfax and more. In 2004 she received a Small Business Advocate of the Year award and in 1997, the Athena Award, from the chamber. Now retired, Cross worked as marketing director for CPA firm Burdette Smith Group, P.C. She lives in the city with her husband, and has three sons and three granddaughters.

Daniel Drummond is serving his second term on council. He lives in Green Acres with his wife and three kids. He focuses on economic development and quality of life issues in the city. Drummond authors a blog called "The Corner Of..." He is member of regional transportation and finance committees, and connects with the community through FPYC sports, Fairfax Pool and St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.

Jeffrey Greenfield serves on local emergency planning, human service and public safety committees. On his ninth term on council, Greenfield has also been active in the 1993 Bond Referendum Task Force, Fairfax 2020 Commission and Task Force for a More Livable City of Fairfax. He graduated from Fairfax High School and George Mason University. He, his wife and their daughter live in Windy Hill.

David Meyer has lived in Fairfax City for 29 years. This is his second term on council. He helped write "Fairfax, Virginia: A City Traveling Through Time," and served as a member of the Livable City Task Force, Fairfax Bicentennial Committee, Old Lee Hills Civic Association. Meyer is on the George Mason University School of Communication's advisory committee. He supports youth organizations like Boy Scout Troop 187 and FPYC. He, his wife and their two children live in Old Lee Hills.
