After touring several Silicon Valley tech companies and taking in valuable advice on how to successfully create a technology startup, Dandekar's team prepared to enter Microsoft's Imagine Cup challenge.

The team walked away with the competition's $5,000 cash prize in the Innovation category for their application, which aims to help physical therapy patients.

"Imagine being able to receive real-time feedback on physical therapy exercises performed at home by using Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect," Microsoft representatives said in a press release last week. "That’s what these four students have invented."

Dandekar and his teammates Anish Simhal, Shiv Sinha and Jonathon Blonchek of "Team KinectPT" said the patient's doctor can then track the patient's progress and performance through their application.

Microsoft representatives said the bootcamp and the Imagine Cup challenge are part of the company's goal to "scour the country to discover the creative geniuses behind the next big tech inventions."
