Fairfax City School Board Members Sworn In

Five residents elected to the City of Fairfax School Board were officially sworn in during a ceremony at City Hall.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — The five members of Fairfax City’s new school board were officially sworn in during a ceremony at City Hall on Monday night.

Lauren A. Bartelme, Kristina M. Cecere, Amit S. Hickman, Sarah M. Kelsey and Carolyn S. Pitches were elected during the Nov. 5, 2024, general election, filling the five vacant seats on the City of Fairfax School Board. Hickman and Pitches were both members of the previous board, with the latter serving as its chair.

Chris Falcon, clerk of the Fairfax Circuit Court, swore in each of the board members.

“I just want to take a moment to give thanks to the individuals that are sitting behind me right now for agreeing to answer the call to service,” he said, at the beginning of the ceremony. “It is so truly important and I am very grateful to you all.”

Once the new school board was sworn in, Richard Herrington, secretary of the City of Fairfax Electoral Board, presented each of the board members with a framed certificate of election.

A brief reception followed the swearing-in ceremony in the lobby of city hall, which was followed by the first meeting of the new board.
