ANNANDALE, VA — A 33-year-old instructional assistant with Fairfax County Public Schools was arrested on Tuesday for assaulting a student at Annandale High School, according to authorities.

On Dec. 19, a student notified a school resource officer that they had been physically assaulted by an instructional assistant earlier in the day, according to the incident report.

Police arrested Jamie Gerardo Gallo Pacheco of Annandale and issued him a summons releasable warrant, according to police. Upon learning of the allegation, the school district placed Pacheco on administrative leave.

Simple assault is a Class 1 misdemeanor. If found guilty of the charge, Pacheco faces a sentence of up to 12 months in jail and/or fine of up to $2,500, under state law.

Victim specialists from FCPD's Victim Services Division were assigned to ensure the victim receives appropriate resources and assistance.
