New Family-Friendly Programs at Sherwood Center

Programs run through this month and into summer.

The new Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center is hosting family and senior events this month and into summer. Scroll down to see what's available.

Note: Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Open Studio Time for Artists

Are you a local artist looking to share your ideas and talent with other artists? Come to the Art Room at the Sherwood Center which provides a welcoming atmosphere for artists to work on projects.  Space is limited.  First come, first served. Artists must bring their own supplies.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Ages 14 and up.

  • Millennium Art Guild

The Millennium Art Guild is a group operated by the Young at Heart Senior Center and meets each week from 1-4 p.m. on Thursday afternoons.  Artists bring in their own projects and supplies.  All forms of art are welcome.

  • Sherwood Cinema Fun Series

Enjoy an evening out with your family at the free and Fun Cinema Series at the Sherwood Center. Featuring the following family movies:

June 10- Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole
July 15- Tangled
August 12- Gulliver's Travels

Performance Room at Sherwood Center, Fridays at 7:30 p.m. All ages welcome.

  • Thursday Morning Top Rated Movie Series

Action, drama, comedy, classics or just your favorite movie of all time. The new center will offer a series of all time best movies in our own state of the art big screens. Movie selection will be posted on www.fairfaxva.gov/parksrec. Coming up:

May 19 - Casablanca
May  26 -  West Side Story

  • Be Active Exercise Video Series

Do you like to work out with friends or people who have the same interest and maybe the same fitness goals? We will offer a series of different videos to help you achieve your fitness goals. From weight loss, tone your abs or just to exercise in general. Come and stop by for the open free time. Please check www.fairfaxva.gov/ParksRec for more information or call 703-385-1695.

All participants must sign a waiver. Participation will be limited depending on participants and space available. First come, first served.

Rehearsal Room. Tuesdays, 4:30 -5:30 p.m. Ages 14 and up.

  • Open Playtime

Come enjoy some playtime with your friends! The new Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center offers open playtime for you and your family in a state of the art activity room in a safe environment. Bring your kids and enjoy the variety of toys we have to play with at the center. Parent supervision is required.  Space is limited.  First come, first served.

Activity Room. First Saturdays of the month, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Ages 1-6 years.

  • Xbox Kinect

Come and try the new Xbox 360 Kinect system using one of our large projector screens.  What is Xbox Kinect?  The system uses a camera to track your body movement, letting you play motion-controlled games just by walking and moving in front the big screen.  Come and play with your friends, family or just do some exercise.  Space is limited. First come, first served.

Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.  All players must sign a waiver before playing.  Playtime will be limited depending on how many people are waiting.

Rehearsal Room. Mondays. Ages 8-13 years - 3-4 p.m.; Ages 14-18 years - 4-5 p.m.
