No Subway Service Between East and West Falls Church Stations Until Tuesday

Free buses will connect the stations. Add 30 minutes to your trip.

Starting Friday, there is no subway service between the East and West Falls Church stations. That means you have to get off the train at East Falls Church, get on a bus to go to West Falls Church and resume your trip by rail.

The free shuttles starting at 10 pm, tonight, and continue though the Columbus Day weekend until Monday night. Both stations will be open.

Allow about 30 minutes of additional travel time to your schedule. Normal rail service will resume on Tuesday, October 11.

Also, the last train will depart Vienna 17 minutes earlier than usual-at 2:08 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights and at 11:08 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.

Why the distruptions in service: The new subway line to Tysons Corner, of course. Rail construction crews to continue to work at the future tie-in of the Dulles extension (aka the Silver Line)  with the existing Orange Line, according to the folks building the new line.

This tie-in takes place between the East and West Falls Church stations near I-66 and the Dulles Toll Road. This service outage is one of several that have used in the past so that workers can work safely so close to the existing rail line.

In addition to the shuttles between these two stations, Metro will be working between the Vienna and West Falls Church stations where trains will operate every 20 minutes and share one track while personnel replace cross ties and insulators.

Also, rail customers traveling to the Army 10-Miler on Sunday, Oct. 9, should note that the Metrorail system will open one hour early (at 6 a.m.) that day. Shuttle bus service also will begin at 6 a.m.
