Police: Counterfeit Bills at Walgreens, JL Tree Service Hit Twice

Latest crime news:

• Counterfeiting, Walgreens: The store manager contacted police on Sept. 13 when employees noticed that several customers paid for merchandise with small denomination counterfeit bills. Police notified the United States Secret Service.
• Attempted Fraud, 3900 Block of Fairview Drive: Someone tried to convince an older woman that he, her grandson, needed money wired to Lebanon. The victim was not convinced and contacted police on Sept. 17. The scammer told the woman that he had struck a building in Winchester with his vehicle and needed money sent to the building's owner in Lebanon. Police are investigating.
• Attempted Vehicle Theft, Rear of JL Tree Service: Someone(s) broke into a parked vehicle and tried to get it started by tampering with the vehicle's steering column and ignition sometime after 3 p.m. on Sept. 18. 
• Larceny, JL Tree Service: Someone(s) stole chain saws, blowers and shears from the storage compartments of 15 company vehicles sometime after 9 p.m. on Sept. 17.
