Property Taxes Due Oct. 5

Get your taxes in tomorrow.

Fairfax City personal property tax and vehicle decals must be paid for by close of business Wednesday. Send in a late payment and suffer a penalty fee.

Here's how you can pay:

  • Pay online via e-check or credit card. E-checks debit an existing savings or checking account for payments at no additional fee. Credit card payments are charged an additional fee by the service provider. Click here to get started.
  • Leave your payment in one of the marked drop boxes at City Hall.
  • Mail your payment to City Hall.

Personal property tax payments received or postmarked after Oct. 5 will incur a 10 percent penalty plus interest. Decal enforcement begins November 16.

To avoid long lines and delays, promptly check the bill and report any changes to the Commissioner of the Revenue at 703-385-7880. The offices of the Treasurer and the Commissioner of Revenue are open Tuesday (today) 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in City Hall. The offices will operate extended hours Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The 2011 personal property tax rate is $4.13 per $100 of assessed value. The commonwealth will pay 49.19 percent of up to $20,000 of assessed value for personal use vehicles. This tax reduction appears on tax bills as a credit. Citizens must pay the net amount.

Decals cost $33 each for cars and trucks and $18 each for motorcycles.
