Providence District Supervisor Hosts Pop-Up Farmers Market
Pop-up farmers market at Jim Scott Community Center aims to promote community building and placemaking, supervisor says

FAIRFAX, VA — Supervisor Dalia Palchik's (D-Providence) office hosted a pop-up farmers market at the Jim Scott Community Center on Wednesday.
The market featured two vendors: Arcadia Farm, which sold seasonal produce, and The Playful Bakester, which offered variety of sweet treats.
The health department, Tysons Community Alliance, and the Wonder Wagon set up tables to share information and present family-friendly activities.

In years past, the community center had a weekly farmers market, but Palchik said they just wanted to try a pop-up market to bring neighbors together.

"We have a lot of community members who live in the area," Palchik said. "We have the seniors and the kids and so we're trying to bring some county services from the health department and the Tysons Community Alliance, which is really placemaking and community building right here."
The Providence District is already served by two regular farmers markets. The Oakmont Farmers Market, which is operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority, is open Wednesdays, 8 a.m.-12 p.m., at the Oakmont Recreation Center, which is located at 3200 Jermantown Road in Oakton.
In addition, FRESHFARM operates a year-round farmers market in the Mosaic District on District Avenue, between Merrifield Town Center and Strawberry Lane, Sundays, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
