Here are the top stories in Fairfax City today:
- One of the best weeks of the year is right around the corner – Restaurant Week in Fairfax is running from Mar. 6-12! The lineup features over 20 popular restaurants through Fairfax City for your enjoyment. A different cuisine for any occasion, family meals, date night, or just because, all for a discounted rate. (Reston Now)
- The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) is looking to extend free bus fare for the Fairfax Connector for children under the age of 12 in the next coming weeks. The department is hoping the higher age of free travel will remove barriers for parents/guardians to travel as well as acclimate younger children to public transportation. FCDOT is gathering feedback until next Friday and the policy change will be presented to the Board of Supervisors on Apr. 11. If approved, the change will take effect on Apr. 30. (Reston Now)
- After a long journey towards justice, Yohannes Nessibu was found guilty by a jury on Thursday for voluntary manslaughter in 2016 and will face life in prison when he is sentenced on Jun. 16. Nessibu was part of an incident where a drug exchange resulted in a dispute over money and he shot the seller in the head twice and the other member of the exchange later that night. Nessibu fled the country to Ethiopia where he remained until he was extradited in 2019 to answer for his crimes. Now with Nessibu being found guilty of the first-degree murder of the other individual in a previous trial, it is hopeful families can begin to seek closure for their lost ones. (WTOP)
