Sandy Update: Fairfax City Offers Sandbags, Power Station Now Closed

Government offices closed; modified CUE Bus service to return around 2 p.m. Tuesday

The City of Fairfax is offering shelter and sandbags to residents who have lost power or are trying to protect their properties from the storm.

Update: As of 1:45 p.m., the Community Center is closed.

The City has opened the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday "as a comfort station and charging station — with free WiFi," it said in an alert.

The center has water, heat, restrooms and seating, along with power outlets and free WiFi. There is no food or beds at the center, the city said.

"The city will evaluate the situation as the day continues. Please check back to confirm the hours," the city said in a release.

Sandbags

Residents and business owners can get up to five sand bags each upon request, while supplies last.

According to an alert sent by the city Tuesday, citizens can call 703-385-2629 to request sandbags. They will be distributed between noon and 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Property Yard, 3410 Pickett Road.

CUE Bus

No bus service will be provided Tuesday morning; "modified weekday service will begin as close to 2 p.m. as possible on Tuesday, October 30," the city said in an alert.

Offices, Trash Collection

Fairfax City government offices are still closed Tuesday, and there is no trash collection.
