Sears Auto Center Fire Causes $5000 in Damage, Displaces 100
Workers using acetylene torches reportedly caused a fire at Sears Auto Center at Fair Oaks Mall Sunday morning.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at Sears Auto Center in Fairfax Sunday morning. The fire was caused by workers using acetylene torches, according to officials.
Firefighters responded to the store, located at 12000 Fair Oaks Mall, at 10:25 a.m. Sunday and encountered heavy smoke coming from the Sears Auto Center upon arrival. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire in a trash compactor and conducted extensive salvage operations and smoke removal for two hours. Approximately 100 employees and customers were evacuated, according to WUSA-9.
One person was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries. Damage is estimated at approximately $5,000.
