UPDATE: Sex Offender Spotted in Boys' Locker Room, Arrested Next Day

The suspect allegedly assaulted school staff when he was confronted on school property.

A convicted sex offender made two trips to Fairfax High School before he was arrested on school grounds on Wednesday. 

Zemar Melgerai, 59, of Santa Monica, Calif. was first spotted by several students inside the boys' locker room on Tuesday, said Sgt. Joe Johnson, Fairfax City Police. He was arrested Wednesday morning after attempting to gain entry to the school, reportedly to use the shower.

Fairfax City Police took him to the Adult Detention Center shortly after 9 a.m. Melgerai was charged with two counts of unlawfully entering school property as a convicted sex offender. He was also charged with failing to register as a sex offender residing in Virginia.

Convicted sex offenders are barred from school property by law. They must also notify officials and submit information to be posted on the state sex offender registry whenever they move.

He is being held without bond.
