SUV Flips on Pickett, Killing 1

A Mantua man died when his SUV flipped on Pickett Road early this morning.

Marvin Jimenez Centellas, 24, of Persimmon Drive was driving southbound on Pickett near Colonial Avenue at 1:30 a.m. when his 1997 Ford Explorer struck the median strip and a tree and flipped over. Centellas was ejected from the Explorer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His 20-year-old brother was taken to Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released.

Fairfax City Police are investigating whether alcohol or speed were factors in the incident. It is not yet clear whether the victims were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

This is the first fatal crash of the year in Fairfax City. The last fatal traffic crash was on Dec. 8, 2009.
