Thunderstorms, Flooding Possible This Week In NoVA: See Latest
A mostly overcast and cool week filled with April showers is expected in Virginia to start the month, forecasters said.
VIRGINIA — The month starts with nearly a week of cool temperatures and April showers, with thunderstorms possible week, weather forecasters said.
Between two and four inches of rain are expected over the next few days as part of a developing coastal storm, according to the National Weather Service. Rain is slated to begin dropping on north and central Virginia Monday and Tuesday into Thursday.

A few severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and large hail are possible along and south of Highway 50 and Interstate 66 late Monday afternoon and into the evening, according to NWS.
“A few severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and large hail are possible on both Tuesday and Wednesday," the weather service said.

Monday’s forecast calls for showers likely before 1 p.m. and a high temperature of 62, the weather service said. Tuesday’s daytime temperatures will hang around 60. Showers and a thunderstorms are likely before 6 a.m., switching over to rain from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and a Thunderstorm after 11 a.m. The wet weather will continue into Wednesday with patchy fog and a drop in temperature to the upper 50s.
In fact, the entire Northeast is likely to see persistent chill (with temperatures 5 to 15 degrees below average) and frosty mornings mid- to late-week, AccuWeather said.
"Several days of cold winds will accompany and follow the storm that is likely to be a slow-mover," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said. "It may seem like winter finally showed up."
The rain is expected to taper off by Thursday, which should see partly sunny skies with highs in the low 50s. The weekend forecast appears to be equally sunny with temperatures in the mid-50s.
Here's the latest forecast, according to the National Weather Service:
Monday: A chance of showers, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 62. Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Monday night: A chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2am. Patchy fog after 2am. Low around 48. Northeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then rain between 8am and 11am, then rain and possibly a thunderstorm after 11am. Patchy fog before 1pm. High near 60. East wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Patchy fog after 9pm. Low around 46. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday: Rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 57. East wind 7 to 13 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Wednesday Night: Rain and thunderstorms likely before 11pm, then a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Thursday: A chance of rain after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 57. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 52. Breezy.
