UPDATE: Tornado Warning Passes, Now a Watch

Hazardous weather predicted this afternoon into tonight.

UPDATE (8:57 p.m.): NWS has issued a coastal flood warning for Fairfax and surrounding areas until 2 a.m.

(6:09 p.m.): NWS retired the tornado warning. A tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m.

(5:44 p.m.): Tornado warning now in effect until 6 p.m. NWS spotted a severe thunderstorm capable of creating a tornado six miles south of Chantilly and moving north at 30 mph.

NWS Doppler radar found two severe thunderstorms capable of creating a tornado outside of Manassas. One storm is moving northeast at 35 mph, another moving north at 30 mph. Fairfax City still on tornado watch.

Fairfax City and surrounding area is under a tornado watch until 11 p.m. 

National Weather Service has also issued coastal flood warning until 2 a.m. Friday.

Take cover. Move to an interior room and avoid windows. Get inside if you're outdoors. If driving, park and stay in your car or lie flat in a low spot. Don't take cover under highway overpasses.
