Virginia Weather Forecast: Heat Near Records, Storm Threat Thursday

STERLING, VA — Thursday will be a tale of two forecasts. We can expect temperatures near record levels, followed by a chance for rain and thunderstorms during the afternoon commute.

Records for Nov. 3 are 80 degrees in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, and 81 degrees at Dulles. We'll be near those temperatures, and possibly break records Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

All that hot weather will be followed by "gusty showers," according to forecasters. With the chance for a thunderstorm or two. Wind gusts will reach 25 mph, and could climb much higher in a storm.

The main threat for storms comes between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., with a slight chance we'll see showers continuing until midnight.

By Friday, we'll be under mostly sunny skies, and much cooler. Highs on Friday will be in the upper 50s, with winds reaching 15 mph and gusting as high as 25 mph.
