Virginia Weather Forecast: Ice May Impact Roadways Until Noon Saturday
Ice issues on area roadways may linger throughout the morning, according to latest National Weather Service forecast.

STERLING, VA — A winter weather advisory has been extended for parts of the Northern Virginia region Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Many communities in Northern Virginia will get their first look at winter weather Friday night, along with hazardous conditions for motorists.
Winter weather advisories have been issued for the Washington, D.C. area. Warning of slippery roads and walkways that will make travel difficult, the advisory will run until 9 a.m. for Arlington, Alexandria and most communities inside the beltway. But, it has been extended until noon for communities in and around Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties.
"The main concern is a period of freezing rain which may make roads very icy, especially after the ongoing very cold weather," according to a weather service statement.

The chances for snow have reduced through the day, but concerns about sleet and ice will now extend through the morning. Precipitation will eventually change to rain mid-day Saturday as temperatures warm. A freezing rain advisory has been issued for Stafford, Spotsylvania and other communities south of the winter weather advisory.
The Virginia Department of Transportation will have more than 1,000 trucks treating roads Friday night in advance of the sleet. "Plan for slick roads late tonight and through tomorrow morning as icy conditions develop across the state," according to a VDOT statement. "Avoid travel between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m."
