Weekend Guide: 'Sound of Music,' Asian Festival, Community Band
What to do in Fairfax City this weekend.
Fairfax City has lots of arts events lined up this weekend. Take in two local plays, enjoy some Asian cuisine and relax with the Main Street Community Band with this weekend guide:
Friday
- "Sound of Music." City of Fairfax Theatre presents this classic. Set in Austria just before World War II, the young and optimistic Maria becomes the governess to the seven children of widower Captain von Trapp. Lanier Middle School, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., Sundat at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $8 online, $12 at the door. - "Birds of a Feather." The Hub Theatre presents this brand new play. Sit down and enjoy two famous New York stories--Roy and Silo, the two male penguins who pair bonded and raised a chick together at the Central Park Zoo, and the two captivating red-tailed hawks who made their home on the ledge of a luxurious 5th Avenue residential building. New School of Northern Virginia, Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $25. Recommended for audiences 14 years and older. Click here to buy tickets.
- The Quietmen at Auld Shebeen. Traditional Irish group, The Quietmen, perform at Fairfax City's downtown Irish restaurant from 7-9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Listen to Quietmen music here.

- Neighborhood Plant Clinic by Fairfax County Master Gardeners. Lawncare and gardening tips from local plant enthusiasts. Fairfax City Regional Library, 10 a.m.
- The Community Farmer's Market. Stock up on fresh produce and local goods at this weekly market. Sponsored by the Downtown Fairfax Coalition. West and Main Streets, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Asian Festival at GMU. Presented by the Thai Tennis Organization in America, this free, two-day event featuring cultural performances, food, music and more. George Mason University, Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Click here for a schedule of events.

- Main Street Community Band. Stop by for a performance at Brookwood Drive and Spring Lake Terrace in the Country Club Hills subdivision. 6 p.m.
