Weekend Planner: Taste of the Vine, FHS Homecoming, Complete the Circle

What to do in Fairfax this weekend.

Enjoy Fairfax High School's homecoming celebrations, be part of a living painting and raise money for Blenheim this weekend. Here's what's going on in Fairfax City:

Friday

  • Taste of the Vine at Blenheim: Fundraising event. Taste wines from Lost Creek Winery, hors d’oeuvres from Villa Mozart, and listen to music by Cristian Perez. Civil War Interpretive Center at Historic Blenheim, 6:30-9 p.m.
  • Bonita Lestina Performance, Ensemble Gaudior: This performance features antique instruments. It's free and brought to you by the City of Fairfax Commission of the Arts. Old Town Hall, 8-9:30 p.m.
  • Bingo: City of Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department offers bingo every Friday night at Fire Station No. 3. Starts at 7:15 p.m.
  • Aida: Virginia Opera presents this performance at Cinema for the Arts, George Mason University's Fairfax Campus. 8 p.m., Concert Hall. Tickets start at $44.
  • Fairfax High School Homecoming: Parade on Old Lee Highway and tailgate starts at 4 p.m. Homecoming game starts at 7:30. More information here.

Saturday

  • Farmer's Market: The Community Farmer's Market runs every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. behind Wachovia Bank and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Fairfax Surf Shop parking lot.
  • Branford Marsalis Quartet: The group performs original numbers as modern jazz at Center for the Arts. 8 p.m., Concert Hall. Tickets start at $24.
  • Comedian Wanda Sykes. At the Patriot Center. Event starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $35+.
  • Fairfax High School Homecoming Dance: Held at FHS Field House from 8-11 p.m. Tickets for students are $15 presale and $20 at the door. More info here.
  • 5th Annual K9 Krawl: Fairfax County Police Department holds this event every year to raise awareness of the connection between animal cruelty and domestic violence. Bring your dog! Fairfax County Government Center. Check-in is at 8:30 a.m., walk starts at 9.

Sunday

  • Complete the Circle: Our Daily Bread hosts this fundraising and food donation event. Participants will pose for a living painting project that will be photographed from 80 feet above by artist Daniel Dancer of Art for the Sky. Refreshments and live music by The Fretful Porcupine will follow. Proceeds will benefit less fortunate families in Fairfax County. $20 donation for an event T-shirt and a donation of food items. It will take place at the field at George Mason Boulevard and University Drive, 2-5 p.m.
