What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2024 In Fairfax City
The Christmas holiday will result in closures for one or more days and other service adjustments.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Families will get a holiday break from work and school to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah and other winter holidays.
This year, Christmas falls on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and may result in holiday closures and schedule changes over several days. In Fairfax City and Fairfax County, schools are closed for an extended break. Local government offices and some other services will be closed for several days.
Here are all the openings and closings to know around Fairfax City and Fairfax County for Christmas Eve on Dec. 24 and Christmas Day on Dec. 25.

Fairfax City government offices: Closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 5.
ABC Stores: Virginia ABC stores will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.
Courts: Fairfax County courts and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia are closed Dec. 24 to 26.
Department of Motor Vehicles: Virginia DMV locations — including DMV Select in Fairfax City Hall — will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center: Closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Historic Blenheim: Closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
CUE Bus: Regular service until service ends at 7 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25.
Fairfax Connector: Regular bus service will run on Dec. 24, and Sunday service will run on Dec. 25. The only routes that operate on Sunday schedules are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 559, 574, 605, 615, 630, 642, 651, 662, 672, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5.
Libraries: Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Metro: On Dec. 20 to 26, Farragut West, McPherson Square, and the lower level (Blue, Orange, Silver service) at Metro Center will be closed. On Dec. 27 to 30, Farragut West, McPherson Square; lower level (Blue, Orange, Silver service) at Metro Center, Federal Triangle, and Smithsonian; and the lower level of L'Enfant Plaza (Blue, Orange, Silver service) will be closed. Free shuttle buses will serve closed stations. Dec. 24 will have a regular weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight. Dec. 25 will bring a reduced Sunday service schedule to Metrorail from 7 a.m. to midnight.
Park authority: Historic sites, visitor centers and nature centers are closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Post offices: Closed on Dec. 25.
Recreation centers: Fairfax County recreation centers are open 5 a.m. to noon on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25.
Refuse and recycling service: No service on Dec 25; Wednesday and Thursday routes collected Thursday, Dec. 26.
Trash and recycling: County collection customers will not have collections on Dec. 25, and service will be pushed one day for all remaining days that week. For private trash collection services schedule changes, contact your hauler.
Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station and the I-95 Landfill Complex will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25
