FAIRFAX CITY, VA — As residents get ready to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, barbecues and travel, various closures and schedule changes are planned for services around Fairfax.

The Independence Day holiday falls on Monday, July 4, which means some services will be closed for a three-day weekend.

Here are the openings and closings to know for the Fourth of July in Fairfax:

Monday, July 4

General District Court: Closed.

DMV Select Services: Closed.

City Government Offices: Closed.

Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center: Open.

CUE Bus: No regular service.

Refuse and recycling:

  • No collection; Monday & Tuesday routes collected Tuesday, July 5.
  • Curbside yard waste collection delay possible July 5-9.

City of Fairfax Schools: Students are on summer break, but all schools and offices are closed on July 4.

Fairfax County Public Library: All branches and offices will be closed Monday.

Fairfax County Government Offices: Closed.

Post offices: Closed.

Metro: Metrorail will open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight. Last train times vary by stations. View wmata.com/stations for specific times.

Animal shelter: The Fairfax County Animal Shelter offers services by appointment.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will operate on a Saturday schedule.

Fairfax County Trash and Recycling Collection: There will be NO CHANGE in the trash and recycling collection schedule for Monday for customers of Fairfax County.

Fairfax County Recreation Centers: All will be open; Regular hours - 4 p.m.

All Golf Courses: Open; Burke Lake Golf Center - Last bucket sold at 5 p.m.; Laurel Hill Golf Club - Last tee time at 3:57 p.m. Last bucket sold at 6:30 p.m.; Oak Marr Golf Center - Last bucket sold at 5 p.m.

Historic Sites: Colvin Run Mill and Sully Historic Site are closed.

Nature Centers: E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows are closed July 4.

Riverbend Park (Visitor Center): Open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Horticultural Center/Historic House: Green Spring Gardens is closed for July 4.

Farm/Visitor Center/Indoor Arena: Frying Pan Farm Park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, the visitor center is closed.

Tuesday, July 5

  • Refuse and recycling: Monday and Tuesday routes collected.
  • CUE Bus: Regular service.
