What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2024 In Fairfax City
The Thanksgiving holiday will result in various closures around Fairfax City, and some services will remain closed Friday.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Thanksgiving Day falls on Thursday, Nov. 28 this year, bringing a holiday break for students and employees.
Government offices, schools and some businesses will close for the holiday observance. Many government offices and services will also be closed on Friday, Nov. 29 for Black Friday, making it a four-day weekend.
Here are all the openings and closings to know around Fairfax City and Fairfax County for Thanksgiving on Nov. 28 and Black Friday on Nov. 29.

Fairfax City govenment offices: Closed on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29.
Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed on Nov. 27 to 29.
Fairfax Museum & Visitor Center: Closed on Nov. 28 to 29.
Historic Blenheim: Closed on Nov. 28 to 29.
Courts: Closed at 12 p.m. on Nov. 27 and all day on Nov. 28 and 29.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers in Virginia will be closed on Nov. 28 to 30, including DMV Select service at Fairfax City Hall.
Libraries: Fairfax County Public Library locations are closed on Nov. 28 and 29.
CUE Bus: No service on Thursday, Nov. 28 and modified weekday schedule for Friday, Nov. 29.
Metro: On Nov. 28, Metrorail will open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight. It will be on a reduced Sunday schedule at all stations. Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule. MetroAccess customers may make a reservation to travel on the holiday, but subscription trips will be canceled.
Parks and recreation: Historic sites, golf courses, nature centers and visitor centers are closed on Nov. 28. On Nov. 29, golf courses have regular hours. The Burke Lake Park Visitor Center; Lake Accotink Visitor Center; Clemyjontri Carousel; Colvin Run Mill; Sully Historic Site; nature centers at E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows; Riverbend Park Visitor Center; and Green Spring Gardens Horticultural Center/ Historic House are closed. Lake Fairfax Visitor Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Frying Pan Farm Park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Post offices: Closed on Nov. 28.
Recreation centers: Fairfax County recreation centers are closed on Nov. 28 and open regular hours on Nov. 29.
Trash and recycling: Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the city is scheduled to collect two days' worth of refuse, recycling, yard waste, and debris on one day: Collecting multiple days' worth of debris on a single day may cause atypical delays in waste collection throughout the city on Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1.
Virginia ABC: Virginia ABC stores will be closed on Nov. 28 and reopen for regular service on Nov. 29.
