$200 Tax Rebates Issued In VA: When To Expect Yours
A $200 tax rebate will be headed to the mailboxes or bank accounts of eligible Virginia taxpayers. Here's who can get the rebate and when.
VIRGINIA — Virginians who filed taxes in the last year can soon expect a $200 tax rebate.
The $200 individual tax rebate, or $400 for jointly filing couples, were part of the bipartisan budget finalized in September. According to Gov. Glenn Youngkin's office, the state will issue most rebates by Nov. 7. Eligible taxpayers had a tax liability in 2022 and should have filed that year's taxes by Nov. 1, 2023.
Youngkin announced the tax rebates would soon be arriving during a visit to Falls Church's Eden Center Tuesday. The governor says the tax rebates help residents who are grappling with inflation.

"As Virginians continue to face inflation and high prices as a direct result of policies out of Washington, D.C., these rebates are an important step going into the holiday season to help Virginians keep more of their hard-earned money for gas, groceries and essentials," said Youngkin in a statement. "My administration has delivered over $5 billion in tax relief to Virginians, and we’re pleased that these rebates will provide needed relief to Virginians."
Taxpayers who received a tax refund from Virginia this year by direct deposit will likely receive the tax rebate the same way. All other eligible taxpayers will receive the tax rebate as a paper check in the mail. Those who moved in the last year and have a forwarding address with the U.S. Postal Service will have the check mailed to the new address.

"Over the next few weeks, more than $900 million will be refunded to taxpayers that filed a Virginia income tax return for tax year 2022," said Virginia's Secretary of Finance Stephen Cummings in a statement. "That brings the total to $2 billion in excess tax receipts that are being returned directly to Virginia families since last fall."
While $200 is the maximum amount individuals can receive, any money owed to state and local agencies will be deducted from the rebate to pay those debts. The rebate amount will also depend on the tax liability after credits such as the earned income tax credit or credit for taxes paid to another state.
