Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No, I have no family members in politics or government positions and no relatives that currently work for Fairfax County.
Previous public office positions or appointments
As a senior at Justice High School, I was elected to the Fairfax County School Board as the student representative to the Board. I have not held any office or public appointments since High School and am entering politics now to give back to the community that I grew up in and love.
Why are you seeking this office?
Being from Mason District, I firmly believe that I possess a unique perspective on what the District needs to thrive. I am confident that I am the best candidate to serve as the next Mason District Supervisor because I am fully committed to bringing my vision for the District to life. Some key priorities of my vision include: proactive school planning to eliminate trailers in elementary schools and expand vocational education opportunities; closing the education achievement gap by implementing comprehensive, equitable policies; traffic safety improvements, including more designated safe areas for walking and biking with well-lit crosswalks; and smart commercial growth, including attracting sustainable amenities and providing more green space, creating “mini-Mosaics” in Mason.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
Mason is my home and I know the people that live here. I grew up in Bailey’s Crossroads, the son of a small business owner and a school clinic aide. I attended Glen Forest Elementary, Glasgow Middle, and Justice High Schools and am the only candidate with school aged kids currently in Mason’s schools. Since announcing my candidacy, I have knocked on over 5,000 doors to connect with the voters directly to learn what their issues are. This experience will allow me to best represent all residents of Mason District.
What do you see as the top issues facing Fairfax County, and how do you address them in your campaign platform?
We must invest -- actively and substantially -- in Mason’s schools. I will prioritize expanding our elementary schools to allow the elimination of classroom trailers and increasing the vocational education opportunities in Mason. This will provide much-needed support for our teachers and create top-tier opportunities for our children.
I will also focus on the revitalization of aged districts. I believe in creating win-win solutions that attract sustainable amenities to our community while expanding opportunities for green space. I welcome all interests to the table as we work to create “mini-Mosaics” in Mason making it an even more vibrant, safe, and accessible place to live and work.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
As the owner of two small businesses - one in real estate and the other an animal hospital - I've gained invaluable experience in entrepreneurial leadership. In addition, I've also served on two HOA Boards, where I've worked diligently to bring the communities together. In my most recent role, I led the association in adopting clean electric lawn machines to reduce both noise and environmental pollution.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
It would be an honor to serve the residents of Mason District, and I ask that you vote for me, Reid Voss, on June 20.
