Falls Church Library to Launch Energy Lending Program
The program is modeled after a successful initiative in neighboring Arlington County that provides real solutions to energy waste.
From City of Falls Church: Card holders of the Mary Riley Styles Public Library in the City of Falls Church will soon be able to check out more than the latest best-selling novel or blockbuster DVD. Modeled after a successful initiative in neighboring Arlington County, the new Energy Lending Library allows members to take home thermal imaging cameras and books that will help identify areas of energy waste in homes and provide real solutions.
The official start of the program will be later this week. Program managers presented the program to the City Council at tonight's meeting.Thermal imaging cameras see what your eyes can’t. They help identify hot and cold spots in the home, indicating where insulation is missing and where air leaks occur. The curated booklist offers energy saving tips and will help residents complete “do-it-yourself” projects to save energy and money to make homes more comfortable.
The list includes some Spanish titles. The Energy Lending Library was funded by a grant from the Village Preservation and Improvement Society. It is the latest initiative of the Environmental Sustainability Council’s Energy Transition Subcommittee, which is working to reduce wasted energy throughout our community to support the City’s vision that protecting and nurturing a healthy natural environment is one of our highest callings. The webpage on the City and Library's website are still under construction. Once officially launched, visitors can find information at www.fallschurchva.gov/EnergyLendingLibrary or www.fallschurchva.gov/Camera.
