Storm To Bring Heavy Rain To DC, NoVA Over Mother's Day Weekend: Forecasters
A slow-moving storm will bring rainy weather to the Washington, D.C., area over the Mother's Day weekend, according to forecasters.
VIRGINIA/DC — A slow-moving storm will bring rainy weather to the Washington, D.C., area over Mother’s Day weekend, according to forecasters.
Along with possibly heavy rain, temperatures are expected to cool off, with highs in the low-60s on Friday and the 50s on Saturday and Sunday. Enough rain could fall from the storm to lead to small stream and street flooding in some locations, AccuWeather meteorologists said.
Showers are expected to begin Friday and then gain intensity Friday night. Locally heavy downpours are possible Friday night, according to the National Weather Service. Rainfall amounts could total 1 to 2 inches Friday night.

On Saturday, showers are expected to remain in the area, with Northern Virginia and D.C. expected to see at least another inch of rain. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the 40s Saturday night.
"Conditions will begin to deteriorate by Friday morning ahead of an approaching low pressure system that may bring strong to severe thunderstorms across southern portions of the area Friday afternoon," the NWS said. "Steady rainfall continues Saturday and may pose a flooding risk during the day and into the overnight hours before the low moves further offshore."

Showers are forecast to continue into Sunday morning, with a chance of drizzle lingering through the afternoon, the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang reported.
The storm will bring spread soaking rain from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic coast from Friday to Saturday, according to AccuWeather.
"Outdoor weddings and graduations will need a backup plan, forecasters say, and a strengthening breeze may cause the rain to blow sideways and could render tents and canopies useless," AccuWeather said.
For families planning to head to the beach on Sunday, Mother's Day, Maryland and Delaware beaches will see chilly, gusty winds and rough surf, according to AccuWeather.
