DC, NoVA Weather: Rainstorm Followed By Beautiful Spring Skies Later In Week

A powerful storm front sweeping across the country could reach the Washington, D.C., area, but sunny skies are to follow.

VIRGINIA/DC — A powerful storm front sweeping across the country could reach the Washington, D.C., area on Tuesday, but sunny skies are to follow as beautiful spring weather takes hold for the remainder of the week.

While the storm front heading from the Gulf of Mexico and across the Midwest will scatter rain, hail and heavy winds on several states, D.C. and Northern Virginia are likely to just see rain.

"The week begins with showers and thunderstorms continuing eastward along a frontal system moving through the East and South," the National Weather Service said.

In the D.C. area, some showers are possible after 1 a.m. Monday night into Tuesday, with drizzle continuing into the morning. Steady rainfall is then likely between midday and late afternoon on Tuesday. The total accumulation of the storm to this point is expected to be less than a tenth of an inch.

Some intermittent showers could continue until 8 p.m. Tuesday night, with another tenth of an inch potentially falling. The storm system will move out by the end of the evening.
