Have a (Free) Taste: Dominion Wine and Beer Offers Unique Selection

If there's a unique beer or wine you're looking for, or if you want to try something new, Dominion Wine and Beer in Falls Church has a lot to offer. 

The shop opened on July 15 and is described by owner Afsheen Tafakor as a boutique fine wine shop. Dominion Wine and Beer carries wines from smaller vineyards as well as wines that are harder to find. 

The shop focuses on U.S. wines, including Virginia wines (the store carries about 20 wines from Virginia wineries) as well as wines from around the world. The shop also focuses on carrying beer from U.S. craft breweries, as well as meats and cheeses from small farms.

The shop offers free beer tastings on Fridays and wine tastings every Saturday.

“It’s really cool,” Tafakor said. "We cut up meats and cheeses that we carry and pair them with drinks."

Since opening in July, Tafakor has been getting a lot of requests for Virginia wines and harder to find wines. He plans to expand his inventory of Virginia wines down the road.

Tafakor also owns two other wine shops, one in Bethesda and one opening soon in Gaithersburg. What does the McLean resident like about Falls Church? 

"I like how it’s a very local community, everyone knows each other," he said. "It's not like a big city."
