Falls Church Based Non-Profit to Invest in Danville Computing Center

Project would create 15 new jobs in Danville.

Falls Church-based Noblis and Seattle-based Cray Inc. will invest a combined $2.5 million to establish the Center for Applied High Performance Computing in the City of Danville.

Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) announced the decision reached by the two companies Thursday morning. The project will create 15 new jobs in Danville.

“We are excited to be a part of this dynamic partnership,” H. Gilbert Miller, corporate vice resident & Chief Technology Officer for Noblis said in a written statement Thursday. “The Center will provide unprecedented access to supercomputing in the private sector. We believe that this amazing cross section of innovation and technology will help achieve new breakthroughs in high-performance computing and drive future progress.”

The center will use this high-performance computer to solve complex problems requiring access to large amounts of data, according to a statement on Thursday.

Noblis is a nonprofit science, technology and strategy organization that helps clients solve complex scientific, systems, process, and infrastructure problems in ways that benefit the public, according to the statement.
