Latest FEMA Class Score Equals Flood Insurance Discount for Falls Church City

Residents will get a 15 percent discount on flood insurance because of the improved score.

The City of Falls Church has received a class seven rating from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through the National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS).

The score is an increase from the class eight the city received last time. For city residents, it means a 15 percent premium discount for those who purchase flood insurance.

City of Falls Church residents who are NFIP policyholders will have a total savings of $21,972.

According to a release, the city is one of 20 communities in the Commonwealth to qualify for the program. The CRS recognizes community efforts beyond those minimum standards by reducing flood insurance premiums for the community’s property owners, according to the release.

The city says the CRS Program adjusts insurance premium rates to reflect the reduced flood risk that are a result of community activities that reduce flood losses, facilitate accurate insurance rating, and promote awareness of flood insurance.
