Less Than an Inch of Snow for Fairfax County

NWS reports another round of snow possible Sunday night.

Less than an inch of snow covered streets and lawns in Fairfax County Tuesday morning according to the National Weather Service’s website. An expected one to two inches was supposed to fall on the area, according to earlier NWS reports.

As a safety precaution, Fairfax County Public Schools opened on a two-hour delay, as did Falls Church City Public Schools. It is possible that more snow could be on the way later this week.

“Our next chance for anything other than rain is Sunday night into Monday,” said NWS meteorologist Chris Strong. Strong said the precipitation then will be freezing rain or snow.

Cars along Interstate-495 moved at a steady pace this morning aside from typical back ups and jams. Traffic along Route 50 in Falls Church also moved without any problems.

Dave Haskins, 44, of Fairfax, said the roads were not bad at all. He said most of the problems he saw were people who looked scared to be driving in the snow.

“You would see some people looking like they were hanging onto their steering wheel for dear life,” Haskins said Tuesday morning at a Falls Church gas station. “The roads should get better as the day goes along.”

Jen Wang, 35, of Falls Church, said she expected more snow that what she woke up to. She said the lesser amount of snow is a good thing. More snow would have caused more problems, she said.

“This will be easier to get around in,” Wang said. “The last time it snowed, it was too much and people couldn’t drive around.”
