Jimenez Claims Win In Fairfax County's Mason District Supervisor Primary Election

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Andres Jimenez claimed victory in the Mason District supervisor with a tight lead over Reid Voss.
Longtime Mason District Supervisor Penny Gross is retiring, leading four candidates to seek the Democratic nomination: Jimenez, Reid Voss, Jeremy Allen and Steve Lee. With all but provisional ballots counted, Jimenez had 35.24 percent of the votes, followed by Voss with 32.29 percent, Allen with 20 percent and Lee with 12.48 percent.
"Now, with the results from last night's primary officially in, I am honored to be your Democratic nominee for supervisor," Jimenez said in a message to supporters. "Our work is just getting started, and while there's certainly much more to talk about, today I wanted to just take a minute to say thanks."

The winner of the Democratic primary goes on to the Nov. 7, 2023, election. Election results are unofficial until certified by local registrars and the state.
Jimenez is an at-large member of the Fairfax County Planning Commission who has indicated his top priorities are protecting the environment, revitalization efforts, equity and access for all, increasing access to affordable housing, supporting the workforce, supporting public safety initiatives and investing in schools and transportation.

Other Democratic primaries in Fairfax County include Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney and sheriff, Board of Supervisors chairman, the Dranesville, Mount Vernon and Springfield Board of Supervisors districts, and select Virginia House and Senate districts. No Republican primary elections are being held in Fairfax County.
There were three other candidates in the primary election.
Voss, a small business owner and realtor who grew up in the Mason District, said his top priorities are investing in schools to eliminate trailers, increase vocational training in schools, revitalizing aging districts, workforce housing, traffic safety improvements, One Fairfax equity in policies, and mental health access.
Allen is a member of Rep. Don Beyer's staff with priorities like considering if land use proposals appropriate for each area, more funding for parks to promote public access, constituent engagement, affordable homeownership, supporting teacher pay and special education staffing, boosting benefits for county employees, small business opportunities, helping senior residents, domestic violence prevention and early childcare support.
Lee is a small business owner who has worked with the Fairfax County Economic Advisory Commission and Central Annandale business revitalization committee and Korean American associations. He identified affordable housing, constituent engagement, developing plans to extend Metro to Mason District, fully funding schools, support for businesses, expanding senior programs, and supporting early childhood education and childcare programs.
As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Fairfax County Office of Elections reported an estimated 9 percent turnout, with 4.6 percent from early voting and 4.4 percent from polling places.
