VIRGINIA — Much of the Father's Day and Juneteenth weekend will be warm and sunny but without chances of thunderstorms and showers in Northern Virginia and DC, forecasters say.

Friday presents the main threat for showers and thunderstorms. The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang says showers are possible any time Friday in the DC region. But the greatest possibility for storms comes around midday and the afternoon, while thunderstorms could arrive midday and potentially again in the evening.

In DC, the National Weather Gang says isolated showers and thunderstorms could hit before noon. Showers are likely with a possible thunderstorm between noon and 3 p.m., then scattered showers and thunderstorms could still appear before 9 p.m.

Beyond the storms, Friday will be partly sunny in DC with a high near 82.

The rest of the weekend brings sunny skies and warm weather. Saturday could be breezy with gusts as high as 22 mph and a high around 83.

The Capital Weather Gang said hazy skies will be the result of smoke Saturday and Sunday, but forecasters don't believe it will create bad air quality as seen the previous week.

Another chance of storms returns later Monday. While the National Weather Service expects a mostly sunny day with a high near 88, a chance of showers is more likely after 9 p.m. The Capital Weather Gang won't rule out a chance of showers or thunderstorms later in the afternoon or evening, but the forecast will become more clear closer to Monday.

Enjoy the sunny weather while you can this weekend, because the work week will bring chances of showers Tuesday to Thursday. The early forecast from the National Weather Service shows a 40 percent chance of showers each day.
