• Compass Coffee in West Falls Church could shutter after bankruptcy (ffxnow.com) — A popular Compass Coffee shop in West Falls Church may close as the D.C.-based chain uses bankruptcy to shed what it calls unprofitable leases, including the Route 29 drive-thru location. The company owes millions to landlords and suppliers and hasn’t said when any targeted cafes might shut their doors, leaving local customers and workers in limbo. 
• N. Va. Transportation Commission elects Bagley to lead as region seeks state funding approval (alxnow.com) — Falls Church gains continued influence in regional transit decisions as City Council member David Snyder transitions from chair to immediate past chair of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission. Alexandria Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley now leads NVTC in a crucial year, as the body pursues state authority for dedicated transit funding that will affect Falls Church riders and taxpayers.
• Developer plans 450 apartments, retail in Fairfax (virginiabusiness.com) — A Falls Church-based developer plans 450 apartments and new retail in Seven Corners, with a small part of the site lying inside the City of Falls Church. The mixed-use project would replace Pistone’s Italian Inn and New Grand Mart, pending Fairfax County rezoning and possibly Falls Church City Council review. Residents could see major changes to a long-familiar commercial corner.
