130 MPH+ Chase On I-95 Ends In Drug, Weapon Charges: Police

A 28-year-old Spotsylvania man out bail was arrested following a high-speed chase Tuesday night on I-95, according to reports.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 28-year-old Spotsylvania man is facing drug and weapon charges after a high-speed chase ended in a crash on I-95 Tuesday night, according to authorities. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was out on bail in connection to similar charges stemming from an arrest last April.

Spotsylvania sheriff's deputies responded around 9:07 p.m. in response to the report of someone brandishing a firearm in the 10000 block of Patriot Highway, according to the incident report.

"While in the area, a deputy observed the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop," the report said. "The driver refused to stop and fled north on Patriot Highway before entering Interstate 95 southbound. The suspect reached speeds in excess of 130 mph, weaving through traffic and recklessly endangering other motorists as well as pursuing deputies."

Although the deputies lost sight of the vehicle, they discovered that it had crashed at the Ladysmith off-ramp. Troopers with the Virginia State Police took the suspect into custody and recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle, according to police.

VSP transferred custody of the suspect, identified as Dareion English of Spotsylvania, to sheriff's deputies. He was charged him with felony eluding, reckless driving, possession of a Schedule I/II narcotic, possession of a Schedule I/II narcotic while in possession of a firearm, driving on a suspended license, displaying fictitious license plates, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the sheriff's office. English was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held without bond.

English was arraigned Wednesday morning in Spotsylvania General District Court and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. on Nov. 13, according to court records.

The most serious charge English is facing from last Tuesday's arrest is possession of a Schedule I/II narcotic, which is a Class 5 felony, under the Code of Virginia. If convicted of of charge, he faces a possible prison sentence of one to 10 years or up to one year in jail, plus a fine of up to $2,500.

The eluding, possession of a Schedule I/II narcotic while in possession of a firearm and the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charges are all Class 6 felonies, which are each punishable by one to five years in prison, or up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.

A day before the high-speed chase, English had been indicted by a grand jury in Spotsylvania General District Court on a felon in possession of a firearm charge, as well as two counts of possession with intent to manufacture/distribute a Schedule I/II narcotic, according to court documents. These charges were in connection to an April 18 arrest.

English has a plea hearing scheduled for Jan. 12, 2026 on these charges, according to court records. At the time of Tuesday's high-speed chase, he was out on bail.
