FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A "cat lady" is a "woman who has a lot of cats, especially a woman who lives alone and is considered to be slightly strange," according to the Cambridge Dictionary.

Although some people may take offense at that characterization, the dictionary also classifies the term as "humorous," which is likely why most of the cat ladies out there seem to embrace the title. If it's "slightly strange" to have a big heart and affection for cats of all shapes, sizes, ages, temperaments and fur colors, so be it.

Friday was National Cat Lady Day. To celebrate the occasion, Patch invited all the cat ladies in Fredericksburg to share photos of the felines they adore for this photo gallery.

Kobe is almost four-years-old. He was found wandering the streets of King George when he was just a few months old, and he has since become a well-deserved spoiled house cat. His average day consists of relaxing in the sun and being pampered and doted on by everyone around him. He is an avid bird watcher and bug snatcher who can always be found near a window or balcony with a nice view. Kobe enjoys entertaining visitors with his only party trick: taking shots at the bar like any of the young adults he is surrounded by would; however, house rules state that felines are only offered whipped cream. Everyone who meets Kobe comments on how talkative he is and that he must've learned this from me. He has brought so much love and companionship into my and my family's lives. I'm so glad he wandered in just the right direction and I'm sure he is too. — Lindsey Carabin, Fredericksburg

My 4-year-old tuxedo cat Berlioz was named after one of the kittens in the Disney movie "The Aristocrats". We found him in 2020 after he was abandoned in a barn in Alabama and a few months later he made the move back to Virginia with us. He loves to wrestle with his canine sister, go for car rides and adventures in his cat pack. — Tricia Turney, Spotsylvania
