A Full Line-Up of Outdoor Events Welcome June
Cars, concerts, hikes, canoeing -- Fredericksburg welcomes June with an incredible selection of outdoor events.

Scott Ramminger and the Crawstickers perform 7 - 9 p.m. Friday in Historic Market Square. Free.

Local racers will compete on the William Street hill for the title of champion in one of four divisions: Masters, Super Stock, Stock and Super Kids. The event includes food vendors, face painting, balloon animals and free kids activities. The opening ceremony is Saturday at 7:30 a.m. Races begin at 8 a.m. Rain date: Sunday, June 2. William Street from College Avenue to Washington Avenue will be closed from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the event.

This American Canoe Association Paddle Green Event begins at 10 a.m. at Riverfront Park and will include:
- On-water instruction, races, canoe, kayak and stand up paddleboard clinics.
- Cleanups conducted at heavily used sites along the river.
- Local vendors, clubs, and businesses that will inspire you to get outside and play.
- The 2013 World Tour of the Reel Paddling Film Festival screened under the stars, showcasing some of the best paddling films from around the globe. Tickets to the film festival are $10.
This show of some of the region's finest antique and classic cars is 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday . All automobiles are 25 years or older, in originally preserved and authentically restored condition. The day begins at 8am and wraps up at 3pm. Admission free to spectators. Caroline Street between William and Charlotte streets will be closed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the event.
Mary Washington Hospital brings attention to the motorcycle injury prevention with a rally from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday in Lot L, behind the Moss Free Clinic. The event will feature the Joe Vex Band, the 540 Boyz extreme motorcyclists, face painting and games for kids, free food and drinks, hourly raffles and prizes, 96.9FM radio and more.
National Trails Day and Clean the Bay Day Events
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Virginia State Parks are co-sponsoring special events June 1 at all Virginia State Parks, including the two in our area.
Lake Anna State Park -
Clean The Bay Day at Lake Anna State Park: 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., please pre-register; no children allowed.
Enhance the Trails: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Evening Hike on Glenora: 5 - 6 p.m. Join a park ranger on a hike to the historic Pigeon Run Plantation site.
Westmoreland State Park -
Clean the Bay Day at Westmoreland State Park - 9 a.m - 12 p.m.
Join an interpreter on one of the following hikes, wear comfortable hiking shoes and prepare to get your feet wet. The cost is $3/person or $8/family.
- 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Hike Turkey Neck Trail to learn about and search for wildlife near the wetlands. This 3.3 mile round-trip hike is moderate, with a few steep sections.
- 3 - 4:30 p.m. - Follow Big Meadow Trail, a 1.4 mile round-trip hike with a moderate steep section, to Fossil Beach. Look for the fossilized remains of sharks, dolphins, rays, and crocodiles that lived in an ancient sea that covered these lands millions of years ago. Sieves provided.
- 6:30 - 8 p.m. - Go on a guided hike on Rock Spring Pond Trail to learn about and search for nocturnal animals. This 1.8 mile round-trip hike is on a paved path to Rock Spring Pond.
