FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 39-year-old Fredericksburg man assaulted a Stafford County sheriff’s deputy March 10 at Mary Washington Hospital, according to authorities.

Around 12:13 p.m., the deputy was assisting a person who was voluntarily seeking mental health services at the hospital, which is located at 1001 Sam Perry Blvd. in Fredericksburg, according to the sheriff’s office. While this was happening, the deputy recognized a man he’d previously encountered, who was at the hospital for reasons unrelated to the person the deputy was helping.

The man, identified as Darrell Jackson of Fredericksburg, moved quickly toward the deputy in the hospital lobby and confronted the deputy. The incident escalated and Jackson began to assault the deputy, according to the incident report. Hospital security and staff rushed to help the deputy.
