- Dixon-Smith Middle School in Stafford County was evacuated on Thursday morning due to a bomb threat. After a search of the school, no explosive devices were found, and students were allowed back into the building around 1:00 p.m. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the incident, but no information regarding the nature of the bomb threat or any suspects has been released as of the time of publication. - The Fredericksburg Police Department is actively recruiting for the role of Deputy Police Chief, a newly created position with significant responsibilities. This position will be instrumental in shaping the future of the city by overseeing two divisions within the department. - Nearby Stafford is preparing for its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 26, dedicated to honoring the service members who lost their lives during the Gulf War. The event will take place at the Armed Services Memorial and feature General Craig Crenshaw, a retired Major General and Gulf War veteran, as the keynote speaker. - A snapping turtle from Fredericksburg has been named the Pet of the Week at the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center. After what is assumed was a vehicle accident, the turtle suffered numerous injuries — however, he is currently being rehabilitated and it's reported he is looking much better! (Royal Examiner)
